Register: Five examples

(This is far from a complete set. I’m sure you, being the astute and creative readers you are, can come up with many more.)

Let’s take the “U mad bro” concept. We say that (or type it) when it’s clear someone’s taken offense because they’ve been called out on something.

TEXT: U mad bro

(There might be a question mark after that. Then again, there might not.)

TWITTER: U mad, bro? (insert GIF of choice here, if desired)

FACEBOOK: Oh, you’re mad at me? Tough.

LINKED-IN: Have I upset you? Surely everyone knew that already.

ACADEMIA: I ascertain from observation that you possess a degree of anger over this incident. Surely you realize that nothing new has been revealed about you or your dealings.
